The 27 January issue of The Spectator features a cryptic crossword entitled ‘Capital fellow’, and 1 Across begins the financial theme.

There’s an anagram indicator here in the form of ‘rogue’. Rearranging ‘yet grin’ is only seven letters, but we’re told to ‘embrace female’. In this case, the word ‘female’ means the letter ‘f’. So, an anagram of ‘yet grin’ needs to embrace an ‘f’ (contain an ‘f’ somewhere in the middle).

What’s another way of saying ‘make bourgeois’ which also fits the above requirements?

Answer: GENTRIFY
