Celebrity name game instructions

The Celebrity Name Game is a quick and easy game, perfect for parties. Here are the basic rules:

Setup

1. Materials needed

None! Just a group of friends to play with. This works best with at least 6 people, but can be played with fewer if you like.

Gameplay

1. Choose a celebrity and state their full name

Game play moves around the circle of players clockwise.

2. The next player has to name a celebrity whose first name starts with the first letter of the previous celebrity’s surname

For example, if Player 1 says, “Ariana Grande”, Player 2 has to name someone starting with a G, such as Gary Lineker.

3. Reverse!

If a player names a celebrity with matching initials (say, Greta Garbo for the example above) then play changes direction and goes anti-clockwise. Keep your opponents on their toes!

4. Time limit (optional)

You can set a time limit for each round to keep the game moving. This game works best at a fast pace.

5. Losing

If a player answers incorrectly, when it’s not their turn (for example, if play has changed directions and they didn’t remember), or takes too long, then they’re out.

6. Winning

The last one in is the winner, of course!

Easier variation

To make this game easier for children to play (and to pass the time on road trips) instead of following the naming rules above, you can just name celebrities in alphabetical order. This gives everyone time to work out their next turn while the game is in play!
