While sudokus are all about numbers, there is no maths involved in solving them. They are logic puzzles, where the aim is to fill each column, row and 3x3 grid with the letters 1 to 9 once and once only.

When you start solving, scan through the puzzle and look for which numbers have been placed for you. This will help you to find squares into which only one number can fit.

For example, in the top central 3x3 box, the number 6 can only go in the top right square, as the number 6 appears in all the other rows and columns that make up the puzzle.
